The Road Not Taken

“Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,

And sorry I could not travel both”

- Robert Frost

Two sides of the same coin

Stuck on the edge

Between the grooves

Waiting to fall

Now I’ll go

Traveling through the path chosen

Opting to have another

Slowly cracking

Always does not mean

Forever

Do you ever truly escape your past? How often do you think of those past moments and how you could’ve changed your actions? It’s like riding a roller coaster; no fun adventure is just up eventually, you have to fall. As you descend, you feel bliss you feel free, and you have to wonder how long you feel like this because soon it turns into sadness, and then you face a loop. This endless cycle that doesn’t seem to slow down, and then suddenly you’re back up again, but how long do you stay up?

How often do you think of those past moments and how you could’ve changed your actions? It’s like riding a roller coaster; no fun adventure is just up eventually, you have to fall.

Why can emotions not be like a path, then again too much of one thing can kill you. So, as these paths start to diverge you notice a break that brings you back. It’s like traveling through time, which moment do you decide to revert to? Once you get there you see why you felt this way - happy and free. Is it who you’re with, or where you are? That shouldn’t matter right because you might become too attached to that time and not be able to move forward. But, you just want to be there because the present hurts too much and you want to return to when you felt peace.

What is time - past, present, future? Why do you hope for the future instead of living in the present? As you expect to carpe diem through the now, it makes you reconsider the choices to do so. The past turns you into your present which inevitably becomes your future. How long will it take you to get to the future you want, and what happens when it’s achieved? Do all of your qualms vanish as the right pieces are placed in front of you? Maybe you are just set on the right path and it is now up to you to decide what steps you shall take onto that goal of yours.

Do all of your qualms vanish as the right pieces are placed in front of you?

Every problem has a solution, right? What about life? You have to question which is more important, life or death. You wake up and hope to live life to the fullest, but sometimes all you accomplish is waking up. And when you face death, you want to live life to the fullest. So, is the entirety of your existence attempting to fill up that cup? Two sides to the same coin, life and death. Such a fickle thing to be stuck between the duality of choice. You often wonder what it would be like not to be able to change your decisions. Maybe that would make life easier, but what about those moments that help you grow into a new version of yourself.

Life is burdened by death as death is a recollection of life. The two choices are just one choice that you make every day. Within the one choice is the second option, always. Neither one can exist without the other and even though the path may blur out of vision, it’s always there. Two, one, none. It’s all a cycle that will one day bring you to the top of the peak, and once again you fall, but do not take for granted the feeling of freedom. Soon that is replaced, and you yearn for it also. The cycle will end, but for now, you must live in your present.
