The Ruffin Distinguished Artist in Residence is an annual position established by an endowment from the Peter B. and Adeline W. Ruffin Foundation. The first artist selected to hold this position is Cindy Bernard. Coming to the home of the cavaliers from Los Angeles, Cindy Bernard will be spending time working with fifth year students in the distinguished major program, as well as fifth year fellows.

Since Professor Andrea Press arrived at the University of Virginia in 2006, the Media Studies department has transformed from a "program" to a expansive department. Coming from the University of Illinois, home to one of the oldest, most influential media studies programs in the country, Professor Press was well equipped to shape the way media should be studied at the home of the Cavaliers.

During my first year of college, if I had been asked whether or not I wanted to study abroad, my answer would have been no. In my second year of college, you probably would have gotten the same answer. By my third year of college, and rather late in my academic career, I realized that I had developed a passion for the Spanish language. Carey Albertine and Saira Rao met rushing the same sorority at the University of Virginia and have worked well together ever since. Albertine and Rao join the ranks of highly successful U.Va. alumnae Iris has interviewed. Their publishing company In This Together Media publishes “great books about real girls,” with the purpose of inspiring women and girls through reading.

Ginger Moran - Iris Magazine Editor and Associate Director of the UVa Women's Center will be doing a book reading tonight! Ginger will be reading passages from her book "The Algebra of Snow: A Bedtime Story for My Mother" at the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library tonight at 7:00pm. No reservation necessary! Ginger will also be available for a question & answer session after the reading where she will be sharing information on being a published author and other writing advice.
