Awards season is upon us once again, and we at Iris are beyond excited. To prepare for Sunday’s ceremony, some of the interns have given their personal favorites to win the highest honors. Be sure to catch some of these fantastic films if you haven’t already! Valerie Best Picture - It's a close call for me between The Help and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. I think ELIC will pull out ahead. Best Actor - George Clooney, The Descendants. I always have to go with George Clooney; plus, he made that movie watchable for me. Best Actress - Rooney Mara, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. She was amazing, I was mesmerized for the entire movie. Best Supporting Actress - Melissa McCarthy, Bridesmaids. Funniest movie I've seen in a long time, and she was perfect. I love her! Jenni Best Picture –The Artist. I don’t know if it’s the definite frontrunner, but this love letter to old Hollywood is so charming and fun to watch. It opened my eyes to the beauty of silent film. (Bonus: UVa alum and Iris friend Jen Lilley is in The Artist!) Best Actress – Meryl Streep, The Iron Lady. She is one of the most powerful and talented actresses working today. I think it’s finally time for her to go home with a win. Best Actor – Gary Oldman, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. He’s incredible--such a versatile actor. Best Supporting Actor – Christopher Plummer, Beginners. This film was truly moving—and Christopher Plummer was such a strong part of that. His was a beautiful, nuanced performance. Best Original Screenplay – I have to pull for Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo for Bridesmaids! They did such great work, and it’s exciting to see so many successful women in comedy.
