- Darya Domracheva (Belarus) became the first woman to win three biathlon gold medals at one Olympics: One in women’s pursuit, one in the 15 km individual and one in the mass start. She is now the most accomplished Belarusian Olympian of all time.
- Tina Maze (Slovenia) and Dominique Gisin (Switzerland) tied for the downhill gold medal, the first tie for gold in women’s downhill in 78 years of alpine skiing.
- Mikaela Shiffrin (USA) became the youngest woman ever to win alpine skiing gold at the age of 18 years and 345 days.
- Lauryn Williams with her partner, Elana Meyers (USA) won silver for the U.S. in the two-person bobsled. Williams also previously won gold on 4 x 100 track relay in London 2012, making her the sixth athlete in Olympic history to finish on a podium at both summer and winter games.
- Marit Bjorgen (Norway) is now the most successful female athlete in Olympic winter history with a total of 10 medals overall from three games. This year, she took three cross-country golds in skiathlon, the 30 km freestyle and the team pursuit.
Bonus fact: Women’s ski jumping was an Olympic event in Sochi for the first time! (German Karina Voigt won gold.) Information is compiled from the official website for the Olympics.
