Charlottesville has quite a bit going to keep it on the map in the world of cinema: in particular, on Sunday night, it was home to one of only 49 official nationwide screenings of the 84th Annual Academy Awards. Oscar Night America at the Paramount Theater, a benefit for the Virginia Film Festival, proved to be a sparkling affair, attended by a varied and very sophisticated looking crowd. Charlottesville residents and supporters of the arts were present, as well as UVa students, professors and faculty.

Sharneé Zoll (CLAS 2008) made headlines and smashed records in her basketball career at U.Va. After college, Sharnee was drafted into the WNBA. Soon thereafter, Sharneé made the move to international basketball, playing for teams in Romania, Turkey and Poland, and continuing to make news with her impressive skills.

Awards season is upon us once again, and we at Iris are beyond excited. To prepare for Sunday’s ceremony, some of the interns have given their personal favorites to win the highest honors. Be sure to catch some of these fantastic films if you haven’t already! Valerie Best Picture - It's a close call for me between The Help and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.  I think ELIC will pull out ahead.
